This limited edition of 677 pieces – a nod to the date of birth of iconic Mexican artist Frida Kahlo (06/07/1907) – is presented in a specially designed box with an additional smooth brown leather strap, featuring a “patina” effect.
The quintessence of celebration
Its round case measuring 42 mm in diameter provides a large opening onto its unique dial, inspired by the artistic technique of the indigenous Huichol people. Delicately worked in relief on a black background, the famous floral skull pays tribute to the most iconic celebration in Mexican culture: “Día de Muertos”.
Artistry from expertise
Featuring 27 different varnishes, this stunning decoration offers up a joyous, colourful face by day; at night, the skull is illuminated by a remarkable seven different colours of Super-LumiNova®. A true MIDO icon, the Commander collection is available here in its BIG DATE version, characterised by its subtly integrated large date window at 6 o’clock.
Harmony in movement
The transparent case back reveals the workings of the Commander Big Date’s mechanical heart. The Caliber 80 with large date aperture is fitted with an oscillating weight decorated with Geneva Stripes. This extraordinary automatic movement combines excellent autonomy – up to 80 hours of power reserve – with a Nivachron™ balance spring. The use of this component reduces the effect of magnetic fields on the movement, while providing impact resistance and durability to help ensure precision.
Every aspect of MIDO’s watchmaking knowledge and expertise is reflected in this limited edition which embodies a dialogue between Swiss watchmaking and rich Mexican symbolism, in a perfect artistic fusion.
